About
Our goal
Our practice philosophy is based on providing quality dental care in a relaxed and friendly environment. We have a forward-thinking approach to dentistry, with a commitment to keep up with innovations and developments in our field. We believe in an interceptive approach to dental treatment; aiming to prevent dental problems from occurring in the first place, and educating our patients in helping themselves to better oral health.
We are committed to:
- Exceeding every patient’s expectations by providing unparalleled service, paying attention to detail, and demonstrating a passion for excellence.
- Honour the dignity and value of each patient that chooses our practice.
- Seek knowledge and stay at the cutting edge so that our patients receive the benefits of the latest techniques.
- Help each patient achieve the best oral health and oral aesthetics available to them.
- Work as a team, with the aim of enhancing the patient’s life, and empowering them to accept dentistry and refer family and friends.
- We recognise that patients, who are happy with the way they are managed, are much more motivated to achieve good oral health. Happy patients become healthy patients and want to stay that way with continuing care. We are committed to whole person dentistry.
Dentists and Hygienists
Two dentists work at the practice: Stephen Cowley and Toby Dignum. We also have the support of a dental hygienist, Mandy Paddock.
Stephen graduated from Birmingham University in 1984 and worked for a short time in another Black Country surgery before taking over this practice. He has special interests in periodontal (gum) treatments and all aspects of cosmetic dentistry. He regularly attends courses covering these subjects.Stephen is a keen footballer, golfer and supporter of Everton FC.
Toby also graduated from Birmingham in 1996 and has practiced at this surgery ever since. He is particularly interested in children’s dentistry and the new developments in cosmetic dental treatment. His less mainstream hobbies include surfing and geocaching.
Mandy graduated from Bristol University in 1995 and has worked with us for several years. She is interested in the recent advances in the treatment and prevention of periodontal disease and is a Northern Soul fanatic.

For your safety
Continuing professional education
We are registered with the General Dental Council for continuing professional development. All our team regularly attend courses and the practice subscribes to many professional journals so that we can keep abreast of the latest changes in dentistry.
Good Practice Scheme
The Practice is at present applying for the Good Practice award. This is a scheme organised by the British Dental Association and is only awarded to practices that have demonstrated high standards in all aspects of general dental practice.
Cross infection control
Our practice meets or exceeds all the official guidelines for cross-infection control. Gloves are worn for all procedures, and instruments are either disposable or sterilized using modern autoclaves. For the protection of our patients we have a written cross-infection policy, that staff are trained to adhere to at all times.
Practice
The practice has recently undergone a significant refurbishment and modernization program. All the surgeries have state-of-the-art equipment, and are all air-conditioned.
The practice is computerised.
The practice has recently converted our x-ray system. We now have a digital x-ray system which enables us to show your x-rays immediately on our computer screens. For your safety it means you are exposed to a much lower dose of radiation each time you have an x-ray
First Visit
On arrival at the surgery you will be welcomed by one of our receptionists and asked to complete a medical history form. Once this is completed you will be invited into the surgery. We believe that the most important part of your initial dental visit is simply to talk over your dental requirements, and the options available to you. After a thorough and careful check-up, a full to written treatment plan will be produced for you. At all times we will try to fully explain your treatment choices and we will always request your consent for treatment before commencement.
